More than food – fitting out your restaurant to bring in customers

Fitting out a café or restaurant properly can be just as crucial as the food you plan to serve. The atmosphere and décor of a place is one of the first things that your customers will pick up on, and it’s an experience that they’ll take away with them – for good or ill. In short, the interior design of a restaurant or café will play a key role in its success.
If you’re not sure, then just think about some of the most popular hangouts in Auckland. Mexico, Coco’s Cantina, Depot, and Soul Bar and Bistro all serve lovely food, but customers don’t go there for the food alone. They go there for the ambience, the surroundings, and the overall impression that they get when they eat there.
Another thing to keep in mind is that when you run a fashionable, well fitout place then you can also command higher prices than a place that looks like a rundown dive from the 80s. It sounds harsh, but if the interior looks awful, then people are likely to be more critical of the food as well, and may baulk at high prices.
Good design doesn’t begin and end in the dining room either; the kitchen is just as important. You don’t want your chefs bumping into each other all day long (the job is already stressful enough)! A smart kitchen design will enable you to increase efficiency by having the right equipment in the right place. That way the chefs will have their own little stations and won’t need to keep wandering around the kitchen for this and that.
At Annan Interiors, we’ve had many years’ experience fitting out cafés and restaurants. We’ve seen how a thoughtful design can allow business owners to create a comfortable atmosphere and positive experience for their customers.
The cost of a new fitout can be quite daunting for new business owners. Unfortunately it’s hard to give a blanket rule about costs as it depends on your premises and what you’re envisioning. But always keep in mind that doing a good job now can save you lots of money in the future. I remember one new business owner who initially chose a less than reputable company because they promised it would be $1,000 cheaper. The only problem with that was they did a shoddy job, and the repair bill came to far more than the initial $1,000 he saved.
It can be hard to envision how to redecorate your space with the right materials, lighting, and even overall theme. This is particularly true if the space is quite tricky to work with such as having narrow doorways, lots of steps, old plumbing, poor utility services, low ceilings, etc. But don’t fear – that’s what we’re here for. We can customise everything in your café or restaurant to make sure that you can make the most of your space. From design to building and installation, we can do it all!
Just remember, when it comes to a café or restaurant, your forte is more than food. It’s furnishings too, and if that seems a bit overwhelming, then we can help.
